SUBJECT: Replacement of Fuel Pressure Hoses
MODEL: 750iL (1988 - 1989)
Situation: Due to temperature fluctuation within the engine compartment premature setting of the rubber fuel hoses at the mounting clamps can occur. To assure durable fitting, the material composition of the hoses has been changed in production.
Visual Identification: Examine the engine fuel supply hoses located on the left side of the engine compartment bulkhead (rear of engine).
Fuel hose with hose clamp construction: OK Do not replace.
Fuel hose with crimp type construction: NOT OK Replace with improved type.
Special Note: The improved fuel lines and related clamps can be ordered in kit form using P/N 13 53 9 061 892.
Replacement
Procedures: Pressure Regulator Fuel Lines
· Remove center engine cover and mountings.
· Detach coolant expansion tank (Do not remove coolant hoses or cap).
· Disconnect electrical connectors, remove electrical wiring harness and position to one side.
WARNING: Gasoline spillage and vapors.
· Remove cyl. 7-12 fuel rail assembly.
· Replace both pressure regulator/return pipe fuel lines and screw clamps.
· Reinstall cyl. 7-12 fuel rail assembly.
· Reinstall electrical wiring harness and electrical connectors.
· Reinstall center engine cover mountings.
Fuel Return Line
Detach windshield washer tank connections, move tank to flat area above right headlight.
WARNING: Gasoline spillage and vapors.
· Replace fuel return line screw clamps.
· Note: Vehicles with a fuel cooler require one additional hose
(P/N 13 53 1 731 660). Refer to illustration "E".
· Reinstall windshield washer tank.
Fuel Supply Lines
· Remove left front wheel.
· Remove left wheel house splash shield (see illustration "A").
· Detach fuel line holder(s).
WARNING: Gasoline spillage and vapors.
· Remove both fuel supply lines.
Note: Depending on the position of the fuel supply line lower clamps, it may be necessary to unscrew the lower clamps from inside the left frame rail
(see illustrations "C" and "D").
· Install improved fuel supply lines with new screw clamps. Use care that both lower screw clamps are tightened securely.
Note: Both fuel rail supply line screw clamps should point forward (see illustration "B"). Failure to comply may cause the coolant expansion tank to leak.
· Reattach fuel line holder(s).
· Reinstall left wheel house splash shield.

This Service Action has been assigned code number 32. After the prescribed work has been performed, obtain a label (SD 89-003) and
a) emboss your BMW dealer warranty number in the middle of the label.
b) punch out number 32 printed on the label.
c) bend label to crease an edge and remove the backing paper. Then affix ft to the "B" pillar (on driver's front door) as shown.
the car affected already has a label from a previous Service Action/Recall Campaign, affix this new label next to the old one. Do not affix one label on top of another one because a number from an underlying could appear in the punched out hole of the new label.
