Hallo T bird.

It's a real pain.
I tried the usual solutions but they don't work. I cleaned the brake switch but no go. At a point I taped an old switch from a copy machine in the position of the brake switch and the problem was gone. After a while I had to mount the BMW switch again and back was the problem. So I'm seem to be lucky.
Still, some electrical guy told me the problem is nearly always due to an increased resistance in the wiring. Mostly caused by the sum of a lot of corroded ground connetions. Even if they seem to be oké, together they can be the cause of the problem.
Electrics are, like you, not my hobby but you already checked all of your wiring so you know where to look for them. I don't know how many groud connections there are in this part of the wiring but there can't be to many.
Disconnect, clean and connect again.
I didn't try myself but the guy who told me sounded very professionel.
