Ich bin auch Schweden, aber wohne jetz im DE nach Sommer.

Mein deutsch ist nicht super, aber ich versuche

Versicherung kosten im DE sind etwas teuer?
Ein E30 318 -94, €800 pro jahre (nicht kasko), oder kann ich billiger finden?
Auch Golf 4 TDi -98, €800

du kannst auch gerne Englisch schreiben, falls es dir leichter fällt - die meisten im Forum können ganz gut Englisch!

Ich weiß nicht wie es in Schweden mit der Autoversicherung läuft - in Deutschland ist die Einstufung des Autos abhängig von diversen Faktoren wie zum Beispiel der Leistung (nicht mehr so stark wie früher), dem Alter, des Anteils des Autos bei jüngeren Fahrern und noch einiges mehr.

E30 und Golf 4 sind oft bei jüngeren Fahrern zu finden, das würde dann die recht hohe Versicherungsprämie erklären.
Am meisten hängt es jedoch von deiner Einstufung ab (Schadensfreiheit = SF) - die SF wird in % und Jahren angegeben, und gibt an wie viele Jahre du unfallfrei gefahren bist.
Natürlich ist es nicht ganz so einfach, aber so im Großen und Ganzen ist das eine kurze Erklärung gewesen, wie das Versicherungswesen für Autos in Deutschland funktioniert.

Wo hast du eigentlich die Versicherung berechnen lassen? Es gibt sehr gute Vergleichsseiten im Internet, z.B.

www.check24.de - da siehst du dann sofort was das Fahrzeug dich jährlich kostet.

You are absolutely right: car insurance is awfully expensive in Germany. Why is it so? I guess because in case of a crash it is expensive: (1) German love big expensive new cars (which are expensive to repair), (2) labour is very expensive in Germany (making any repair more expensive than for example in Poland) and (3) on top of that the insurance may have to pay a certain amount to compensate for the loss in market value of the damaged car.

That is the reason why many many young people have no car but - how surprising! - their parents have, beyond a big Merc or BMW, a cheap 15 year old VW Golf or Opel Corsa, which happens to be driven by the son / daughter "as well". Get the picture?

I am Belgian and used to insure my first car (an old Audi 80 diesel with just 68 bhp) in Belgium and Luxemburg before I moved to Germany.
Insurance fee in Belgium: +/- 600 euros / year (living in a small village)
Insurance fee in Luxemburg: +/- 700 euros / year (living in Luxemburg city)
Then I moved to Germany. The insurance fee was... +/- 1600 euro!

(for a small province city of +/- 100.000 inhabitants)

When comparing the insurance fees, these were the same conditions (Hafpflicht + Teilkasko. Sorry, I can't translate this into English).

Quite surprisingly it would have been much cheaper to insure that car on my brother who was younger, had had a crash already (whereas I have never caused one) and was living in... Brussels. Crazy indeed...

Compare insurances, that will save you some money. But the price is still going to remain high.

But there is one positive element: car taxes are easy on big engines in Germany

So I also have a question about the HU/AU.
If it says 03/2011 at Mobile.de, does that mean I can drive until the March 1st or April 1st?

It means you can drive it until end March 2011.

And then your vehicle needs a new check-up in a garage with a permission to make "HU" (Hauptuntersuchung -> Main checkup)
If everything is OK, it is fine for another 2 years!

AU means Abgasuntersuchung! Emission checkup. This is now a part of "HU"

Ok, if it fails what are the rules then?
In Sweden you have 1 month to drive/repair (if it is not a very serious saftey fault).

It pays to compare. If you've had a car insurance in Sweden, it should be possible to get the same amount of "discount years" (SF) on your German insurance, the swedisch insurance company will have to confirm it to your german insurance company.

Thanks for all your answers!

I'm planning to return to sweden in the end of April.
So the car I'm planning to buy (-98 Astra F Cabrio) has HU until 3/2011, so I can go and get a inspection the last day in März, and then export it to Sweden when i leave Germany in end of April even if it would fail the HU.

I will of course need to do a new inspection in Sweden anyway when I register the car.

Captain, I have now recieved a certificate from my Swedish insurance company, which proves my insurance history.
