Standard Oil pressure

Hi all.
The oil light on my dash stays on for more than a few seconds.
Reading the oil problems specific for this engine I have these questions.
When I turn of the car how long does it take the oil housing with the oil filter to drain empty caused by faulty oilvalves.
I asume when the oilvalves are oké the oil will not run out in time.

Regards Henk Beumers.

Hallo Holger.
When I click the link, I get the page with Salzpuckel's discription about the revision of the B30 (Ventilen im Ölfiltergäuse vom B30). What is the B30? Is it the M30B30?
There's a link on the end of that page where the valves look very different.
It seems there are more types of housings with different valve types. Is that correct. How can I tell what kind of valves I have.

Henk.

Hallo Henk,

Thanks for the reply Erich and Holger.
I checked all your articles about this car times ago when I started to service this car myself so I knew where to look but there is no harm in reminding me.
It's that just now I stumbled across this page with totaly different valves so I was a bit confused.
This morning I opened the oil housing and it was completely emty as expected. The valve on the left is demaged ( overpressure valve I think )
The other one is oké. The valve itself and some parts were still in the oil housing. I took them out so they can't demage anything. ( can they get into the engine? )
I'm a bit short in time at the moment so I'll try and find a used one.
I can fix mine than later and replace it. If it can't be helped I'll buy a new one.
If somebody has a used one lying around I would like to buy it.
Is there a flow pattern available how the oil is transported through the engine?
I'll keep you posted.
Thanks for now. Henk.

Hi.
I can get a housing with good working valves from a 1992 730. My housing has connections for the oilcooler. On the 1992 housing I can't see if there is a connection for an oilcooler. There is no reason why I could run my car without the oilcooler for a while is there?

Hi all.
Update.
I ordered a 2nd hand oilhousing. When it was delivered it was the wrong one so they send me the right one ( with oilcooler ) I could keep the one without cooler connections. ( so it's for sale. )
Yesterday I spend a few houres and it's in. It's a real fiddling job meanly because you can't really see what you're doing.
After a day the engine starts up and the oil warninglight goes down in the first two seconds. So the valves are allright I take it.
In time I'll fix the valves of my own housing and put it in my car again.
Thanks for the info. It made the job alot easier.

Henk

'92 Oilhousing. New type valves. Seems oké. Who needs one.

Hi all.
Update.
This weekend I chanced the oil and the oil filter. As I opened this resently mounted oilhousing to change the filter I was surprice to find the housing allmost empty and draining out fast. To check this I poured some oil into the housing and it drained out within less then a minute. I was surpriced because I was under the impression that the oil should stay in there because that's the whole point. I cound'nt do nothing else at this point so I changed the oilfilter and the oil. When I started he car, the oil light went out in moments and also after that it went out almost intstantly. By the way, the valves looked undamaged as far as I could see.
At home I took the oil housing without the connection for the oilcooler that was mitakenly sent to me earlier, and filled it up with oil. It also started to drain empty just as quick as the one in my car. I filled it again and I closed it with the topcover and the draining stopped. Kind of logic because there is no air pressure on top so it can not drain out that way. Even knowing this I can't imagining BMW has designed leeking valves to make changing the oilfilter less messy for us.
So, does any of you know for a fact the oilhousing should not drain emty, even with the topcover off?

Regards Henk.

Hallo,

Also Jung was ist denn da so schwer zu verstehen?
