Yes the no-projectors is a north american thing. For the years 90-93 the headlights were made by the supplier NAL (North American Lighting), as parabolic freeform lights only. Then 94-95 saw the reintroduction of the Hella projector set up.
It is unfortunate for us with 90-93 cars because the lighting is quite poor. Also we lack that classic look that the projector offers.
Edit: Are Euro "smiley" projectors expensive in Europe too? When trying to order them in Canada the prices are outrageously high.
