Elektrik: Batterie Austausch !! Einfache Frage...

Hello chaps,

I am the proud (and fairly recent) owner of a 2001, E38 728i - superb piece of German engineering.....

Now I am a bit puzzled by all these electronics onboard (Navi, mobile, alarm etc etc): looks really complex vs. my previous car (an E30, where all sort of DIY was possible) !!!!

So my question is very simple: I want to replace the car's battery (110 Ah). Is there any risk to do it the simple, usual way: unplug both "Klemmen" of the old battery, switch to a new one and then re-plug the "Klemmen" ? Some friends tell me that by doing so many electronic devices will have to be re-set, which only my dealer would know how.

So, which specific procedure should I follow?

es ist wie Du es beschreibst.
Nacheinander die Klemmen abnehmen und zwar zuerst die Klemme, die Dir am nächsten ist und dann die hintere.
Mit der neuen Batterie dann umgekehrt.
Dann funktioniert alles wie vorher, nur dass Du dann Stationstasten am Radiosteil neu einstellen musst und den Bordcomputer

You are right. You can simply unplug the "Klemmen". You should start with the one closest to you then the other one. And the other way around when you mount the new battery. You will not lose any saved data except the programmed radio stations.

I recommend a general reset when you are already changing the battery. Connect plus and minus cable for about 15 minutes. Without the battery installed! This will clean all caches and result in solving several tiny malfunctions.

I didn't experience any, except the memory for the fuel consumption was deleted.

with the new one vice versa.
