Hello from the USA,

I own "Baby" a 1997 BMW 740iL with S6S420G Getrag 6-Speed transmission and ESS Supercharger.

This is Baby

Baby is VERY fast. Does anyone know of another manual transmission 740iL?

Baby's ESS Supercharger

Please visit my Car site.

Thank you

Simeon

Hi Simeon,
I already read a lot about your car on the Roadfly-board. It is absolutly unbelievable what you did with your car. Have you recently been on the dyno?

To answer your question:
In Germany there are more 740 with manual transmissions. But I have never seen an IL - only the short wheelbase versions.

In general there are a lot more I than IL, which seems to be different than in the US.

But we can let it fly on the Autobahn almost everytime. I own a 750i and it's not unusual hitting the speed limiter at 155mph.

Greetings from Germany

Eric

Eric,
Yes, I recall the speed of the cars in the left lanes of your autobahns.
I lived in there between 1975 & 1979 in Budingen, OberHesse.
As I recall back then the Porsches were very fast. I remember a yellow Lambourghini Muria blowing past me once probably in excess of 150 mph/240kmh.

Here in the US, I had to travel to the Amreican desert Southwest in order to drive my BMW that fast. Good thing too, because the usual road conditions here are not like the road conditions were there in Germany.

Perhaps you can tell me about the Tuning Houses there in Germany? Do many people performance tune their E38s?

Regards,
