I had the same problem on my '94 E34, both sides, looked at AC drains, vents, etc., but finally found it was leaking WINDSHIELD sealant! I have an ultrasonic leak detector which uses a little battery powered ultrasonic emitter, and a detector. I put the emitter on the dash, and with the trim strips around the windshield pulled off I ran the detector around the outside windshield edges and found leaks at most of the clips that hold the trim strips on. I siliconed around each clip, until the detector found no more leaks, and that stopped the wet carpet!

Versuch doch mal so einen Ultrasonic Leak Detector zu bekommen und Teste. Auch interessant, wo bei dem das Wasser durchkam.

ja, dass hatte ich ja oben auch schon in der antwort,bei mir wurde die
frontscheibe auch nochmals (vorsorglich) abgedichtet,da es auch hier
reinlaufen köööööönte. gemacht wurde es mit scheibenkleber, schwarz.
