The stepper motor mounts are notorious for the E32, and not worth replacing with OEM parts... you'd have to replace the whole heater unit lid, and the part is still the same design (BMW blamed the breaking on the horrendous amount of oil leaking from the stepper motors and so weakening the plastic - yeah, right!!)

The general consensus is make a new bracket for yourself - either replace the original out of retrievable pieces, and reinforce with solid epoxy putty, or make metal brackets. I'm up for this job too myself, and not looking forward to it... for me it is a full dash strip, one of my motors was so twisted around it has snapped its cable mounting block! - and the other one has disappeared totally! Again, check the archives, and take what heart you can from the successes reported there.... well worth the effort, apparently.

Hi George, the change took place in october 89 and the reason on the bmw service bulletin is that grease dripping from the stepper motor attacked and weakened the plastic mounting area for the stepper motor. Supposedly stepper motors with a date of 752 and higher no longer have this problem. The official fix involves replacing the whole housing.... The most common fix that i see is to use some epoxy or jbweld to reinforce the broken area and fasten the stepper motor back in place.
