das scheint wohl generell ein Problem zu sein

v12 upper oil pan repair
Ok here's another upper pan story. I have a leaky upper pan gasket 92 32 v12. I know the labor to remove and repair gasket is astronomical. OK My mechanic attended a BMW seminar this week and he says the rep told him not to even bother fixing the upper pan gasket. He suggested just checking the pump thru the lower pan and make sure the bolts are lockewashered on then lower the upper pan and fill the edge with a liquid gasket and tighten and torgue. he claims that thru experience its almost impossible to set the gasket perfect unless you pull the moter and flip over so you can get a perfect press and torque on all bolts. he also claims if you pull it from the bottom 8 out of 10 times you will not eliminate the leak only lessen it and thats the reason its recommended to fix it this way. Its not perfect but its the best under the circumstances. My mechanic also says the rep stated its a known problem with this engine and BMW was at one time quietly buying them back but no more and since the proble occures after 100,000 miles in general its ignored by the warrenty wags. Heres interesting news the rep also says BMW is buying back the new v12 7 series because of so many problems its to costly to fix em.
Has anyone had any luck with this procedure and has anyone heard that fixing the upper pan is a futile gesture or am I being fed a lot of baloney on this one. Thanks.
My mech was upright about the cost , he said its a 12 hour job because you need to drop the tranny to fix it and teh reason ge is leary about it is because the rep told him its not 100% suucessful so the customer keeps bringing it back. ? If thats his reason I can understand it. Unfortunatly Im too old and stiff to crawl under cars anymore.
