Symptom of servotronic or. steering box?
If the vehicle turns left easily, but resists turning to the right (it actually refuses to turn past a certain point, approximately 1 o'clock position), is this more likely a symptom of PS box or internal spool valve failure, or the servotronic unit? This is an intermittent problem... sometimes the steering is fine, and other times it will only turn to the left (have not identified a pattern yet, but it seems get worse the more I drive the car).
I don't even know if I have servotronic, but the archives say I can verify by finding a control module in the left kick panel or by looking for the servotronic unit under the PS box (seems hard to access though). Is there another quick way to verify if I have servotronic? (Did all US E32's have them, or all 740's?).

Re: Symptom of servotronic or. steering box?
When you say it resists you mean you have to apply more force to turn it to one side then the other? A friend of mine had the same problem. For him the solution was to change the servotronic torque convertor on the steeringhouse. That's the part where the electrical connector goes to.
If your steering is actually blocked check the steeringhouse under the car. There are two metal bars that stop the steering travel mechanically. One stops the steeringbox pitman arm and one stops the other side's pitman arm.
I guess the easy way to check for servotronic is to remove the fuse for the servotronic. The steering should then be heavier then normal.
I think all US cars have servotronic as standard equipment.

Small blue box with yellow connector,by pass it and you should get very light steering
