I bought a new A/M switch and put it in and the S in the gearshift display went away Then when I was putting the console cover back in I checked it and it was back.
Long and the short is I removed all the wires from the connector and resolder and crimped them I then put the switch in the console cover and positioned the wires so they would not touch, I then put clear RTV (silicone) sealer on them to hold them all the while testing to see if the S came back.
I have it all installed now and no S for now Cross your fingers for me
bottom line something to do with the wires and the connector seams the logical interpretation.
I also managed to break the gear shift selector cable at the Transmission so I had to replace it , not a bad job, just a lot of getting under then getting in the car to make sure it was adjusted correctly not to mention getting it off the ground enough to get under it,
